Combo screw-in points were developed by Saunders in 1990. It was a time when compound bows were in their infancy, and arrow speeds were increasing as cam and limb designs tested this new frontier. Along with greater speed, mat wear reared its ugly head. Bullet, field, and target points tear up foam targets, so we needed something to reduce mat wear.
The Combo screw-in point was developed to reduce mat wear using two entry stages. The tip of the point is the first entry stage, and its small size generates enough wake to start opening the mat, while the second stage gives just enough boost to finish the opening process, allowing friction along the arrow shaft to bring the arrow to a stop.
