The MSR FreeLite 1 V3 is an ultralight, one-person dome tent designed to provide solo backpackers with reliable shelter while keeping pack weight to a minimum.

At just 0.88 kg, the FreeLite 1 V3 slips into a trail pack without imposing on your load, yet still offers enough headroom for sitting up inside. Its dome structure sheds wind from any direction and maximizes interior space, while the streamlined canopy and floor share the same 15D ripstop nylon with Durashield polyurethane and silicone treatments for a durable yet weight-conscious design.

In tent fabrics, “15D” refers to the thickness of individual nylon threads, with lighter denier offering a fine, lighter cloth; the ripstop weave prevents tears from spreading. Durashield polyurethane adds strength and water resistance, and the DWR (durable water repellent) finish helps water bead off the surface rather than soaking in.

Going solo doesn’t have to mean a tiny tent and a heavy pack. The ultralight, semi-freestanding FreeLite is for people who want to lighten their base weight without sacrificing space or features so they can make the most of three-season adventures.
The Inside: Though it still has the true rectangular floor (no foot taper like most other tents) and 1.00 metre (39 in.) of headroom (7.6 cm more than before), it’s 170 grams (6 oz.) lighter than the previous 1-person FreeLite. A waterproof bathtub-style floor protects from the elements, and the micromesh tent body provides excellent ventilation. A no-curve tent door has new zippers that are more durable and easy to use with one hand. They also zip closed to a single point so you always know where to open the door, even in the dark. New tech-friendly pockets feature cable ports at the corners for headphone and charging cords. Overhead gear loft pockets are perfect for headlamps, sunglasses and other quick-access items.
The Outside: The semi-freestanding design is quick and easy to set up. Super strong DAC NFL tent poles, a DuraShield™ waterproof coating and taped seams keep the weather where it belongs—outside. The cutaway rainfly saves weight and features a large vestibule for storing any gear you don’t want inside. The easy in-and-out vestibule door has a StayDry™ rain gutter to keep water from dripping onto you and your gear.
