When installing a safety pool cover into a wood or composite deck, it is recommended to use Wood Deck Anchors, which have a circular flange and 4 screws.

Concrete Anchors are press-fit snug into the concrete, but wood is too soft for that. To provide for the most support and safety, and because wood planks can rot over time, install brass Wood Deck Anchors.
To install a wood deck anchor, first drill a hole with a 3/4″ wood drill bit. Then use a Forstner bit to countersink the flange, flush with the plank surface. Then switch to a Philips bit, to drive in the 4 brass screws.
