These Carbide Inserts are designed to be mounted to your lathe with the carbide inserted into the mandrel. Each insert has two holes-one for holding the set screws for the carbide insert, and the other for the mandrel. Simply clamp the insert into your lathe chuck, and draw the insert out until it shows no more resistance. Because the inserts are held in place with set screws rather than compression springs, they can be used for many types of work. Because they are held in place by the set screw rather than by a separate set screw, they allow the carbide to be set in exactly the right position for the best …and most uniform …cut.
