The original Speer Lead Round Nose Bullets have been a favorite among shooters since Vernon Speer introduced them more than 40 years ago. These bullets are cold-formed and lubed for a better shot every time. Speer continues to manufacture these bullets today under their own brand name. Lead bullets are much less expensive to produce than plated or jacketed bullets. For this reason reloaders can use them without concern of degrading the quality of their reloads. There are several advantages of using a cold-formed bullet instead of cast or molded. One of the biggest concerns with lead bullets is gas-seeking or sloshing in a chamber, for example. Although they offer less recoil a cold-formed bullet has the disadvantages of reduced weight and a higher chance of the bullet deforming in a live fire situation. Speer bullets do not expand reliably in all chambers and all pistols (some, even all semi-automatics) that employ a live firing chamber. It is for this reason that Speer offer this ammunition only “as is” unless you want Custom Grade bullets which have a brass case.
